Our Approach
"To restore movement, relieve pain, and support recovery — through comprehensive, evidence-based care that goes beyond surgery."
At our practice, we believe that successful outcomes aren't defined by the procedure alone — they're shaped by how well we prepare, how carefully we plan, and how effectively we support your recovery. Our mission is to help you move with confidence, return to the activities you value, and regain independence through individualised, patient-centered care.
One Patient at a Time
We approach every patient as an individual. Your journey begins with understanding — not just your diagnosis, but your goals, your lifestyle, and what truly matters to you.
We start by:
- Carefully listening to your concerns and how your knee pain affects your daily life
- Conducting a thorough physical examination to assess joint function, stability, and movement patterns
- Reviewing targeted investigations including imaging and diagnostic tests to achieve an accurate understanding of the underlying cause
This comprehensive assessment forms the foundation of your personalised treatment plan.
Your Condition is Diagnosed
Once we've identified the problem, Dr. Negus combines clinical expertise, advanced surgical training, and the latest evidence-based techniques to address your specific condition.
Whether your issue involves osteoarthritis, ligament injury, cartilage damage, patellar instability, or post-traumatic changes, every treatment plan is tailored to your anatomy, your health status, and your recovery goals.
Non-Surgical Outcomes
Surgery isn't always the answer. Dr. Negus will only recommend surgery when it is truly the most appropriate option to address your condition and help you achieve your goals.
If surgery is not required, we will identify the best non-operative approach for you, which may include:
- Medications to manage pain and inflammation
- Injectables such as corticosteroids or viscosupplementation
- Physiotherapy and targeted exercise programs
- Activity modification and biomechanical support
Dr. Negus works closely with a network of experienced physiotherapists, sports physicians, and allied health professionals through the MTP Health team and other trusted partners. If non-surgical management is recommended, we'll help connect you with the right professionals to support your recovery.
Surgical Outcomes
If surgery is required, Dr. Negus provides:
- A detailed explanation of the procedure, including what will be done and why
- Clear communication about the surgery's aims and expected outcomes
- Information about potential risks and complications, discussed thoroughly and documented
Dr. Negus uses a variety of resources to help you fully understand your procedure, including:
- Informative diagrams and anatomical models
- Surgical animations and educational videos
- 3D imaging and robotic surgical planning (where applicable)
Every surgical decision is made collaboratively, with your informed consent and active involvement.
Clearly Defined Surgical Outcomes
Dr. Negus' guiding principle is to provide realistic, evidence-based expectations while striving to deliver the best possible results.
We are careful to ensure you have a clear understanding of what surgery can achieve — and what it cannot. While we anticipate and take steps to avoid potential complications, no surgical procedure is entirely risk-free.
Our goal is to communicate openly, set realistic expectations, and work together toward the outcome that matters most to you: improved function, reduced pain, and a return to movement.
Surgery is a Team Effort
Dr. Negus works with highly experienced surgical teams at leading private hospitals across Sydney, including:
- North Shore Private Hospital
- Northern Beaches Hospital
- Mater Hospital
- Macquarie University Hospital
Each member of the surgical team is selected for their expertise, experience, and shared commitment to patient safety and surgical excellence. From anaesthesia to nursing care to surgical assistance, every team member plays a vital role in supporting your procedure and recovery.
Dr. Negus also collaborates closely with the team at MTP Health, ensuring seamless coordination between surgical care, physiotherapy, exercise therapy, and rehabilitation.
In addition, all team members participate in continuous professional development to ensure they are delivering the most current, evidence-based techniques and the most appropriate tailored approach to your care.
After Surgery Care
Your care doesn't end when the procedure is complete. Dr. Negus will see you at appropriate intervals postoperatively, based on your clinical needs and recovery progress.
Standard follow-up includes:
- 10 days to two weeks post-surgery for wound assessment, suture removal, and initial recovery evaluation
- Guidance on weight-bearing, mobility, and activity progression
- Referral to physiotherapy and tailored rehabilitation programs
- Ongoing monitoring to ensure optimal healing and function
Your rehabilitation plan is personalised to your procedure, your goals, and your overall health — designed to help you build strength, restore movement, and regain confidence.
Any Post-Operative Questions
It's normal to have questions or concerns after surgery. Our team is here to support you throughout your recovery.
You can always contact our rooms by phone or email, and we will address your queries promptly.
If Dr. Negus' input is required and he is in theatre, your questions will be addressed as soon as possible.
If there is an urgent problem, you should:
- Attend your GP or the Emergency Department of the nearest hospital
- Contact Dr. Negus' rooms from there
- If necessary, arrangements can be made for your transfer back to the private hospital under Dr. Negus' care for ongoing treatment
